DMZ – Korean Demilitarized Zone ( 한반도 비무장지대 )

The DMZ ( Demilitarized Zone) is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula. It was established at the end of the Korean War to serve as a buffer zone between North and South Korea. The DMZ is a de facto border barrier, which runs in the vicinity of the 38th parallel north.

The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half, crossing the 38th parallel on an angle, with the west end of the DMZ lying south of the parallel and the east end lying north of it. It was created as part of the Korean Armistice Agreement between North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, and the United Nations Command forces in 1953. DMZ Wiki

I would definitely recommend a visit to the DMZ to anyone that comes to Korea as it is a quick way to briefly learn about Korea’s past and show that they 2 countries (north and south) are still very much separated. Here are a few pictures I took from my time there. Hope you enjoy 🙂

btw there is a good Korean movie about the DMZ called JSA (Joint Security Area). Click here for more info

    1. Hi Sarah,

I did the Full Day Tour which consisted of Imjingak Park, The Bridge of Freedom, The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, DMZ Theatre, Dora Observatory and Unification Village.

I booked it through my Hostel at the time, Studio 41st Hostel. Their email address is: studio41st@hotmail.com so you could always email them and ask.

      Hope that helps 🙂
